Colleen Barkdull Obituary

Reverend Colleen Barkdull, 93, Kokomo, passed away at 10:05 am on Saturday January 21, 2023, at North Woods Village.  She was born in Fairmount, IN. on February 21, 1929, to the late Rolland Albert and Juanita Elizabeth (Thomas) Barkdull.

Colleen graduated from Western High School in May of 1949, and received her Bachelor of Sacred Literature in May of 1970, from Circleville Bible College, Circleville, OH.  She was the Chaplain at Regency Place of Lafayette for many years and was the Pastor in Pall Mall, TN.  She retired as Pastor from the Church of Christ in Christian Union.  She served as a Pastor for over 70 years. Colleen never met a stranger and could often be found having long, in depth conversations with people she just met.  She lived her entire life on her terms: in service to God and to people.  She spent her early years doing missionary work near Jamestown, TN which lead to being a private chaplain for Sergeant Alvin York and his family.  She was proud that her family tree can be traced back to Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence.  Colleen had a mischievous sense of humor, loved the quietness of reading a book, the loudness of shooting a gun, collecting all things Tweety Bird and, of course, fishing.

Colleen is survived by her nieces & nephews, Bob (Barb) Henninger, Mike (Ryoko) Kellar, Linda (Bob) Lauderbaugh, Cindy (Duane) Summitt, Ron Riley, and Tim (Laurie) Henninger; Sister in Christ, Margie Moffatt; great nieces & nephews, Mark Henninger, Tammy Barnett, Jodie Bautista, April Bickel, Erika Kellar, Jen Power, Josh Summitt, JoAnna Rodrigues, Ronda Golden, Kim Summitt, Amy Henninger, Erin Emrick, Michael McCune, Marysa Stephens, Tim Henninger Jr., Mathew Summitt, Sarah Henninger, and Macy Riley; adopted grandchildren Bailie, Brianna, and Jacob Bautista; and many great great nieces and nephews, friends, and parishoners.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Rosemary (Paul) Kellar, JoAnn (Joe) Henninger, Thomas Barkdull, and June Hamilton; and Sister in Christ, Freda McKelvy.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday February 4, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Duane Summitt officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 12 pm to 2 pm on Saturday at the funeral home.
