Charles Lee "Chuck" Pennington Obituary

Charles Lee “Chuck” Pennington, 84, Kokomo, was gathered in to the arms of God at 3:55 am Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo.  He was born December 26, 1940 in Kokomo, the son of the late Lloyd C. & Frieda M. (Meeks) Pennington.  On October 10, 1965 he married Marjorie A. Slabaugh at Main Street Methodist Church in Kokomo.

Chuck was a 1958 graduate of Kokomo High School, where he played percussion in the band.  He attended Indiana University Kokomo from 1958 -61 when it was located at the Seiberling Mansion.  Chuck served in the US Army Reserve from 1963-93 and was a member of the 4th and 5th All Army Pistol Team for 20 years.

He shared his musical talents with the community as a member of the Kokomo Park Band from 1970-90.  Chuck was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church since May 13, 1951, and served on numerous committees.  He served as Finance Chairman for more than 20 years.  He was currently serving on the Board of Directors of Samaritan Caregivers and their Finance Committee, serving as Treasurer from 2003-08. 

Chuck retired from a career in finance at Delco/Delphi in 2001.  He had previously worked for First National Bank for 20 years.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie “Marge” Pennington, daughters, Elizabeth “Liz” (Monty) Sanders, Kathleen Pennington; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Cole) Riley, Kyle (Faith) Sanders; sister, Patricia (Robert) Fischvogt; brothers-in-law, Danny Miller, Dick (Karen) Slabaugh; sister-in-law, Judy Tumbleson and many special nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, Ronald Bennett; father & mother-in-law,  Truman & Helen Slabaugh; sisters-in-law, Winifred Miller, Evelyn Miller and Martha Miller.

A funeral service celebrating Chuck’s life will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 830 S. Main Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Kate Biggs officiating.  The service will begin with Military honors provided by the U.S.Army and the Greentown American Legion Post.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-3 pm Sunday at the church.  A committal service will be held at 11 am Monday at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Chuck’s memory to Main Street United Methodist Church or to Samaritan Caregivers.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.  Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes and Crematory have been entrusted with Chuck’s arrangements.
