Charles “Charlie” Harlan, 95, Kokomo, passed away at 9:40 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Northwoods Village. He was born in Wabash County on January 7, 1928, to the late Charles and Nina A. (Bussard) Harlan. On April 25, 1954, in Richvalley, IN., he married Marilyn Higgins, and she survives.
Charlie graduated from Wabash High School and attended Manchester College. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps, where he attained the rank of Cpl., his main assignment was Photography Measure and Analysis. He worked for the United States Post office and retired after 18 years of service. He was an avid reader and wrote a few “western” books. He loved to be in his recliner, watching IU, and the Indianapolis Colts.
Along with this wife Marilyn, Charlie is survived by his children, Carol Harlan, Dave Harlan, and Joe Harlan; grandchildren, Andrew Harlan, Jordan (Chantel) Harlan, Rachel (Ryan) Mummert, and Jessica Harlan; great-grandchildren, Logan Harlan, Ethan Harlan, Emily Harlan, Bella Banks, Iris Harlan, Ivy Harlan, and Landon Rink; brother, Dean (Susan) Harlan; sister, Ann Miles McCammon; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Thomas Harlan.
A funeral service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with his nephew, Kevin Miles officiating. Entombment will take place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the VFW Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kokomo VFW or the Howard County Public Library.
