Charles Stroud Obituary

Charles D. Stroud, 76, Kokomo, passed away at 4:40 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at his home.

Charles, fondly known as “Charlie”, was born in Coffee County, TN, on January 21, 1948, to the late Denton Charles “DC” and Mary Helen (Hansert) Stroud.  He graduated from Morton Memorial High School in 1967 then enlisted in the military where he honorably served his country for 28 years with the United States Marine Corps and Army Reserves.  Along the way he found and married his wife of nearly 50 years, Carmelita Leisure, and she survives.  Charlie then worked for Chrysler Corporation and retired after 25 years of service.  He was a member of the Salvation Army, American Legion, and local UAW 685.  He also enjoyed working for Night Magic as a firework pyrotechnician. He loved spending time with his family, going to the movies, gardening, being ornery, and bringing a smile to others. He was a God-loving, hardworking,        kind & generous man who never met a stranger. No matter how one came to know him, Charlie positively impacted the lives of all he met, and he will be greatly missed.

Along with his wife Carmie, Charlie is survived by his children, Brandon Stroud, and Chanteal (Chad) VanCamp; grandchildren, Payton (Gracie) Stroud, and Amari VanCamp; great-grandchild, Oaklynn Charlie Stroud; brother, Donnie Decker; sister, Mary Nix; brother-in-law, Ronnie Shuck; extended family in Tennessee; honorary family members, Bradley “Doc” (Barb Miller) Vossberg, Kevin (Crissy) Purvis; and faithful furry companion, Chompers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Coby Denton Stroud; sisters, Brenda Offutt, and Judy Shuck; sister-in-law, Shirley Decker; extended family members of Tennessee; and faithful furry companion, Squirrel.
