Catherine Ann Steiner, 95, of Kokomo, passed away at 12:26 am, Sunday, November 9, 2025, at her home. She was born on July 31, 1930, the daughter of Roscoe H. and Thelma M. (Fawcett) Garner.
Catherine was a 1948 graduate of West Middleton High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Indiana University and earned a master’s degree in Poly science. Catherine was a lifelong learner and shared her love of learning with her family and her students. She had a career that spanned three decades as a government teacher at Taylor High School, retiring in 1994. Her love of history and government came to life in her classroom and in the Mock Conventions and Model U.N. Club that she sponsored. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She had traveled to 48 of the 50 United States, Europe, and to many presidential homes. Catherine kept her mind sharp by playing Bridge. During her retirement she undertook new hobbies including oil painting like Bob Ross. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Catherine is survived by her children, David Mark (Karen) Steiner, Lucinda Campbell, and Robert (Lisa) Steiner; granddaughters, Rachel (Robert) Mina, Amanda (Chad) Campbell, Amy (Kevin) Smigielski, and Stephanie Walker; and great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Mina, Georgia Healton, Campbell Healton, Koen Smigielski, Addilyn Smigielski, Zachery Walker, Xavier Walker, and Isabella Walker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Thelma Garner; son-in-law, George Campbell Jr.; granddaughter, Andrea C. Thompson; and brother, William Mark Garner; a niece and nephews.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 2pm, Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Greenlawn Cemetery on County Road 50 North in Greentown, with Pastor Eric Roemer officiating.
