Carl George Ellis, Jr. Obituary

Carl George Ellis Jr., 86, Kokomo, passed away on October 4, 2025, at Waterford Health Campus. He was born in Kokomo to the late Carl Sr. and Marie Ellis.

Carl graduated from Kokomo High School. He went on to marry the late Carolyn Sue Conaway. She passed away in 2015. They were married for 57 years. He later married Janice Conaway Worley in 2017. She survives and remained by his side constantly and wholeheartedly.

Carl enlisted in the U.S. Army for two years in 1962. He was a highly successful businessman, owning and operating Ellis Realty and Ellis Insurance for many years. He was also a proficient auctioneer. He sponsored Ellis Realty men’s softball team for many years. He enjoyed laughing and having fun while spending time with family.

In addition to Janice, Carl is survived by his children, Sherry (Bill) Rahl, Bryan (Ruthie) Ellis, and Jamie Ellis; grandchildren, Brittany Rahl (Jared) Coleman, Amanda (Kenneth) Hooper, Jessica Koon, Eric Walden, Jayce (Nikki) Ellis, and Julien Ellis; great-grandchildren, Christian, Brooke Walden, Ivy, Oak, Patience Walden, Natalie Gatliff, Emma Rahl, Jaydon Koon, Mercedes (Abraham) Plata, Kristen, Noah Hooper, Alexsander Acosta, and Jameson Huston Ellis; great-great-grandchildren, Maverick and Layla Plata; in-laws, Elaine Ellis and family, Bill and Ginger Conaway and family, and Gene and Liz Conaway and family; niece, Teresa (Zimla) Newson and family; and nephew, Bob Peele Jr. and family.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Ellis Sr. and Marie Proctor; siblings, Ella (Don) Zimla, Shirley (Bob Sr.) Peele, and Samuel Ellis; stepfather, Wayne Proctor; mothers and fathers-in-law, Mary and George Alesky and Donald and Liz Conaway.

The family would like to thank the following: Mary Auten, Brittany Rahl Coleman, Tammy and Whitney and family, Amanda Hooper, and Lacey Starkey, for their loving care for Carl.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Mike Alley officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
