C. Robert "Bob" Hasler Obituary

C. Robert “Bob” Hasler, 83, Greentown, passed away at 1:12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Century Villa Health Care in Greentown.  Bob was born October 4, 1934, in Anderson, the son of Charles and Mary (Williams) Hasler.  On November 25, 2000, he married Nancy M. Metz, who survives.

Bob graduated from Anderson High School in 1953 and from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1957 where he became a licensed funeral director.  He was president and co-owner of Hasler & Stout Funeral Home in Greentown along with partner Jeff Stout.  He attended the Greentown Wesleyan Church and was a fifty year member of the Greentown Masonic Lodge F&AM 341.  He was also a member of the Greentown Order of the Eastern Star 195, the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, the Murat Shrine, the Greentown American Legion Post 317 and past president of the Kokomo Shrine Club.  He served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1953 to 1963 and also served as Deputy Sheriff in Madison County, as Deputy Coroner in Howard County, on the Howard County Red Cross Board and as a board member for over thirty years at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown.

Bob started his career in funeral service working at the Brown & Eckenberg Funeral Home in Anderson in November of 1952.  He went on to mortuary school in 1953 where he worked at Shirley Brothers and J.C. Wilson funeral homes in Indianapolis.  After college, he was employed at G.H. Herman Funeral Home in Indianapolis and went on to work for Raven Funeral Home in Marion and then at Parson Mortuary in Muncie.  In January of 1971, he became a partner with Gene Pickett in the Pickett Funeral Home in Greentown.  Bob was able to purchase the funeral home from Gene in 1981.  In 2003, the Hasler’s and the Stout’s formed a partnership and created Hasler & Stout Funeral Home.  In 2005, when the Shirley’s and the Stout’s purchased the funeral homes in Kokomo, the Hasler’s, along with the Grecu’s, became partners in the Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes.  In 2017, Bob was awarded his sixty year pin of service by the Indiana Funeral Directors Association.

In addition to his wife, Nancy Hasler, he is survived by a son, Samuel Hasler; two daughters, Melissa Hasler and Rose Ellen (Larry) McKay; two step-daughters, Lisa Britten and Julie Happersett; brother-in-law, Leonard Eugene Metz; grandchildren, Sarah Willoughby, Aaron Willoughby, Ryan Lee, Ben  (Zullikei) Willoughby, Kaileigh Lee, Marina Swaggerty, Chelsea Happersett, Caitlyn Happersett, and Colin Happersett; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Hasler; and a granddaughter, Summer Britten.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Pastor Paul Boss officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown.  Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Online condolences can be left at www.hasler-stout.com.
