Bret Dean Rivers Obituary

Bret Dean Rivers, 69, Hemlock, passed away at 9:30 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born November 8, 1954, in Crawfordsville, IN, the son of the late Ronald Dean & Carol Jean (Clore) Rivers.  On October 29, 1976, in Lafayette, IN, he married Peggy Kowalski who survives.

Bret was a 1973 graduate of Northwestern High School and had attended Purdue University.  He worked in sales for police and military training services.  Bret was a member of First Friends Meeting and served as a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed working with the youth programs.  He loved to write poetry and was in the process of writing his own novel.  He loved spending time and cooking for his family and friends.

Along with his wife Peggy, Bret is also survived by his daughter, Ruth & Dr. Geoff Bowers; grandsons, Isaac Bowers and James Bowers; siblings, Curt & Allison Rivers, Tipton and Ronna Rivers, Michigan; nieces and nephews, Mitchel & Emily Rivers, Matthew & Emily Rivers, Meredith Rivers, Sarah Kelch, Jennifer Tyler, Andrea Smith and Christina Lane; sister-in-law, Janet & Grey Smith, North Carolina, along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bret was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at First Friends Meeting of Kokomo at a later date.  Due to Peggy being allergic to flowers, please make memorial contributions in Bret’s memory to First Friends Meeting of Kokomo, 1801 W. Zartman Road, Kokomo.  Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation.
