Clifford L. Heaton Obituary

Clifford L. Heaton, 94, Russiaville, died at 9:25 p.m., Sunday, Oct, 25, 2009, at Howard Regional Health Systems.

He was born Feb. 5,1915, in Howard County to Charles and Eva (Dutton) Heaton. He graduated from Russiaville High School in 1933.

He married Ruth (Horn) Heaton on July 6,1963, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2001.

Clifford lived and farmed in the Russiaville and West Middleton areas most of his life. He drove a school bus for Western School Corp. for 16 years. He also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a crop insurance adjuster supervisor and quality control receiver in Indiana and several Midwest states.

He was a member of West Middleton Friends Church. He also was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau, and was on the advisory board of the Peru Production Credit Association. He loved making maple syrup and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia (Michael) Fortune, Russiaville; two sons, Dennis (Jean Ann) Heaton, Russiaville, and Edwin (Janet) Heaton, Greentown. His grandchildren are Melinda (Todd) Kirk, Andrew (Crystal) Heaton, Matthew Heaton, Cara Heaton, Jessica (Brian) Jenkins, Tammy Gregory, and Derek Heaton, Jason (Michelle) Keller, Mike (Jamie) Keller, Kim (Steve) Ford and Kyle (Valerie) Fortune. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth, and sister, Hazel McMinn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with the Rev. Larry Boswell officiating. Burial will follow at New London Cemetery.

Calling hours for friends and family will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Howard County Habitat for Humanity.
