Richard William Weeks, 78, Kokomo, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at his home.  He was born February 17, 1940, in a Southend Sea Hospital during an air raid in WWII in Rockford Essex, England.  He was the son of the late Albert W. & Kathleen E. (Dempsey) Weeks.  On October 7, 1960, in Bee Bee Funeral Home in Watseka, IL, he married Phyllis Eileen Myers, who preceded him in death on November 3, 2018.

Richard was a 1958 graduate of Kokomo High School.  He worked for Jessie’s IGA, Crescent Dairy, Cuneo Press, and Chrysler where he retired in 1989.  Richard and his wife Phyllis attended St. Andrew Episcopal Church where they were care takers for many years. He built hot rods and drove them across the USA.  His extensive research in genealogy lead to an extensive family tree.  Richard built remote control model air planes and flew them.  He and his wife were well known for their large family Thanksgiving dinners.  He was very talented in creating and building things.

Richard is survived by his children, Vivian Sue (Mike) Butcher, Kokomo, Richard (Deborah) Weeks II, Shiloh, TN, Brian Weeks, Kokomo, Billy Ray Canady, Kokomo, and Angela Skaggs (Bobby Ottinger) Kokomo, along with 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Chumbly, Teresa Reinke, along with several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Teresa Garrison; brother, Philip Weeks, and grandson, Joseph Cron.

A Requiem Mass will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 30, 2018, at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 602 W. Superior Street, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Richard Lightsey and Rev. Fr. Ted Neidlinger officiating.  Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-1 pm Friday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com

Offering my condolence to the family and friends of Richard Weeks. As you cherish the many memories of Mr. Weeks, reflect on the time when sickness, death & sorrow will be conditions of the past! (Revelation 21:3,4; 1Corinthians 15: 26) This is what our loving God Jehovah has promised and Jesus Christ himself guaranteed the hope of seeing our loved ones again by means of the resurrection. (John 5:28,29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 26:19)
May God’s word & the prayers of others provide you the comfort to endure each day, as we await the fulfillment of his promises!

Sorry for the loss of Richard and Phyllis. Too bad his funeral isn’t at the Catholic Church, where he was fully joined with Jesus Christ. Peace to all.

Richard struck me as a gentle man who cared deeply about his family, friends and community. We had the gift of a visit from him and Phyllis when they decided to travel and meet his Canadian cousins a number of years ago. I am thankful for his well-lived life which can bee seen though all the loving responses to his passing.
