Dr. Marilyn Louise (Asher) Wagoner, 81, left this world and was welcomed into her heavenly home on July 2, 2018. Her love and devotion to her family and her faith in God were of greatest importance.

Dr. Marilyn was born Jan. 5, 1937, to the late Byron and Nina (Robbins) Asher in Hendricks County, Indiana. She graduated 1954 from Roachdale High School in Roachdale, Indiana. She attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and graduated from IU School of Medicine with a doctor of medicine in 1961. She married Don J. Wagoner, M.D., in 1961.

Dr. Marilyn practiced medicine for 52 years, a calling she acknowledged at a young age. She felt a great responsibility and joy in helping her patients live healthier lives and supported them in all stages of life. She first served as a staff physician at Veterans Hospital, Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. She moved her family to Burlington, Indiana, in 1965 to start a community medical center with her husband, providing general and family medicine to an unserved area. Dr. Marilyn was the first female doctor in Howard County. She served on the Carroll County Department of Health for 34 years. She was a lifetime member of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians, Indiana State Medical Association, and American Medical Association. Dr. Marilyn helped serve as a leader of the Brethren Sisterhood for girls. She was a member of The First Brethren Church, Burlington, and Women's Missionary Society (WMS).

Marilyn loved to garden, especially flowers and herbs. She enjoyed traveling and classical music.

She took great joy in having her family around her, hosting family gatherings, and making holidays special and memorable for her family. She was resourceful and frugal, saving and recycling before it was popular to do so. She was very proud of the character and accomplishments of her grandchildren. Marilyn was a devoted mother, and she always put the needs of her family ahead of her own.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Don, and their two daughters, Ann (Steve) White, and Alison (Bob) Beaudry; five grandchildren, Raquel (Evan) Dagit, Reese White, Sophia (Josh) Haywood, Kelsey Beaudry, and Arden Beaudry; a brother, Herschel Asher, and sister, Pat Cline Harney.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Sutherland. She was loved, will always be cherished, and is deeply missed by her family, who take comfort in knowing she is at peace with her Savior.

The family of Marilyn would like to extended their appreciation and gratitude for the care given by: Dr. Kevin Witt, Dr. John Salter, the staff of Primrose Retirement Community and the staff of St. Vincent Hospice.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at the Neptune Chapel, Stout Funeral Home, Burlington. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Neptune Chapel, Stout Funeral Home, Burlington. Pastor John Drexler will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn's memory to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department or The Burlington First Brethren Church.

To the Wagoner Family,
My mother, Macon Dale Traxler, especially asked that I send condolences on her part for Marilyn's passing. Mom was still in the hospital when Marilyn passed and they had spend some lovely time together at Primrose. Of course their connection went back to the years when our family doctor was John Ware in Russiaville and when he went on vacation, Don and Marilyn would cover his practice, and inevitably some of the 6 Traxler children ended up needing medical care. In what the French refer to their "Toisieme Age" (Third Age), I hadn't realized that they were spending quality time together at Primrose discussing their children (mostly me I guess) over meals. Mom's decent for her age, so we're always glad when she has someone to visit with since most of us are far away, and it's an eternal surprise how many of my former students or their relatives have cropped up among her various caretakers and fellow patients.

Both Mom and myself (not to mention my family) send sincere sympathy for your loss. She was a lovely person and a great mom. As the river of life flows on, cherish her memory in the stories you tell, warts and all. She had a rich full life. You were blessed to have her for her time. And thanks for sharing her with Mom.

To Don and family:

I was so sorry to learn of Marilyn's passing. She was one of the finest members of our IUSOM Class of 1961. It was always very special to see both Marilyn and Don at our class reunions. Both spent their lives serving others, and are esteemed members of our class.

My thoughts and prayers will be with my friend and classmate, Don, and with the family.

Love, Blake
