Buddy James “Jim” Meeks, 86, Kokomo, passed away at 9:51 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. He was born December 16, 1931 in St. Charles, VA to Bessie Stapleton and he later found out through DNA technology that his father was John Mason Payne. He was adopted at a young age by Hubert and Betty Meeks and was raised from the age of nine by his grandparents, John and Sally Meeks.

Buddy moved to Kokomo in 1953 and went to work for Delco Radio and retired from Delco Electronics in 1987 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed tending his large vegetable garden, visiting casinos, and traveling extensively with his wife of 35 years, Marlene. Buddy and Marlene were also active members of Fairfield Christian Church in Kokomo.

He is survived by his children, Charles Meeks, Debra (Chris) Riffe, and Mark Meeks; two step-sons, Ray (Terry) Christine and David (Gayle) Christine; two step-daughters, Mary (Robin) Dodd and Carol (Mark) Hooker;  grandchildren, Brian (Peggy) Riffe, Daniel Riffe, Keenan Meeks, Andrew Meeks, Brandy Meeks, Katherine Ashley, Sarah Rodgers, Kimberly Duval, Matthew Christine, Alex Christine, Lydia Christine, Emily Hooker, Abby Hooker, Jessica Dodd, Melissa Dodd, and Laura Dodd; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Kaitlyn, and Eli Riffe, Emma Grace Ashley, and Madeline Christine; as well as a sister, Judy Beeler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and grandson, Jonathan Hooker.

Funeral services celebrating Buddy’s life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road with Keith Cramer officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
