Marsha D. Bates-Russell, 67, Kokomo, passed away at 11:26 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at her daughter’s home.  She was born July 9, 1950, in Kokomo, to Clarence “Pee Wee” and Norma G. (Snowden) Bates. 

Marsha graduated from Kokomo High School in 1968.  She was a homemaker but had also worked at Delco Electronics, at Bates Welding, which was owned by her parents, and at Gas America in both Galveston and Kokomo.  Marsha was involved with the Girl Scouts as a youth and, later in life, as a leader.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include her children, Brenda K. (Donnie) Michael, Kokomo, and Scott (Tina) Russell, Kokomo; grandchildren, Christian Russell, Isabel Russell, Hunter Russell, Joe (Alissa) Russell and Kristen Michael; great-grandchildren, Treyson Neal, Madden Stout and Jasper Russell; brother, DeWayne (Barbara) Bates; sister, Darlene (Jerry) Elliott; and the father of her children, Sam (Janet) Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Terry Bates.

Funeral services for Marsha will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Tony Manis officiating.  Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses.  Messages of condolence can be left online at

Sorry Scott about your mother. I know it is hard to deal with as we both have lost our parents. It is your time to grieve. Let the Lord help you and give you strength in this time of sorrow.
