Gayle Eugene McMinn died at 4:07 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7th, as a result of a farming accident.  He was born February 14, 1948 in Kokomo, IN.  He was the only son of Robert & Hazel (Heaton) McMinn.  He married Peggy Lynn (Brovont) on December 21, 1969.  Gayle was a 1966 graduate of Western High School and earned a bachelor degree from Taylor University in 1970.   During his high school years, he broke several records as a member of the WHS track team and was nicknamed “Flash”.   He continued to follow his children and grandchildren in their school activities and sporting events.

Gayle grew up in the Russiaville Friends Church.  He was a member and elder of Fair Havens Christian Missionary Alliance Church.  He also served on the church board, taught adult Sunday School and was a leader of a Bible study group.  He was known as a Godly man and loved to share his faith with others.  He was a farmer for more than forty-five years, operating McMinn Farms with his son, Scott.  Twenty-two of those years he also sold Moorman Feed.  Farming was not only his occupation but his hobby.  He especially enjoyed sharing his farming knowledge to his grandson Austin. Gayle and his family were a part of the Hostel Exchange students thru the years.  He also enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, playing cards, Sudoko and the Green Bay Packers.  Gayle served on the Howard County Farm Bureau Inc. Board, Howard County Extension Board and was a former member of the Indiana Young Farmers Association.

Survivors include his spouse of forty-eight years, Peggy Lynn, Russiaville; sons, Scott (Christine) McMinn, Russiaville; Rob (Patti) McMinn, Gainesville, FL; daughter, Michelle (Kevin) Collins, Russiaville; grandchildren, Allison and Austin McMinn, Russiaville; Ethan and Cameron McMinn, Gainesville, FL; Dylan and Mackenzie Collins, Russiaville.

He was preceded in death by his father in September of 1957, his mother in October of 2001, and his grandparents Charlie and Eva Heaton.

Services are Saturday, November 11th, at Fair Havens Christian Missionary Assembly, 1216 S. 300 W. Russiaville, at 10:00 a.m with Pastors John Zwirn and Jon Bond officiating.  Burial will follow at New London Cemetery. Dear Peggy and family, I was shocked and saddened upon hearing of Gayle's untimely death. I have many fond memories of our childhoods in Russiaville and recall his birthday parties and going out to his grandparents place to build floats for homecoming. He was a good man and I know he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

My first memory of Gayle comes from the rainy spring of 1951 when we were both pre-schoolers at Quaker Haven Camp near Syracuse, Indiana. The McMinn family had a cabin there, and Bob, an electrician, had recruited my father, Ike, the plumber, to come and assist in preparing the cement block bath houses for the first joint camping season of Western and Indiana Young Friends. Also helping was Edward Linton, a pastor, along with his wife, Violet, an artist f/Friend of Hazel McMinn. Through the years all of us have continued to learn and grow through encounters with God in His magnificent creation, as evidenced in places like Quaker Haven. The foundations laid by the Christian examples of our parents and grandparents provide grounding in faith for the generations to come. Gayle and Peggy have carried on the traditions of faith to their children and grandchildren in visible and tangible ways. May the memories help to sustain all of you in this season of great loss.

We are saddened and shocked to hear of Gayle's passing! Your family have always left us with sweet memories. Seeing how Gayle's mom had a place in your home, and how the grandkids' lives are entwined with yours shows a loving family atmosphere. An absolutely wonderful example for us all! He will most definitely be missed. We are praying for you all!

Peggy & Family:

Our sincerest condolence to the family for the passing of Gayle McMinn. I have so many fond memories from the 2nd Grade to the 7th Grade. Working on the Russiaville School paper in his basement and selling it for 2 cents. Many basket ball games in his back yard. He will be sadly missed. Found this obit while searching for my Aunt's Obit. May the Lord Bless & Keep you & your Family!
