David A. Nielander, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 1:04 p.m. Sunday, September 10, 2017, in the emergency room at Community Howard Regional Health.  He was born November 17, 1935, in Kokomo, to William J. and Anna C. (Dotter) Nielander.  On January 15, 1993, he married Elizabeth Merrill, at the Burlington United Methodist Church, and she survives.

David graduated from Kokomo High School in 1955 and served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960.  He worked at Delco Electronics, Plant 8, until his retirement in 1993.  David enjoyed volunteering at CAM and was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club and Main Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Nielander, Kokomo, he is survived by his son, Jon Nielander, Avon; daughters, Darla Nielander, Ft. Myers, Florida, and Cynthia Lopez, Westfield; step-son, Brian (Betty) Moorman, Noblesville; step-daughters, Rebecca (Greg) King, Russiaville, and Connie (Jonathan) Derby, Marion; brother, Phil Nielander, Sharpsville; sisters-in-law, Marie Nielander Glunt and Linda Nielander; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in October.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Steve Nielander; and sister-in-law, Betty Nielander.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Duane Carlisle officiating.  Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to Main Street United Methodist Church or the Golden K Kiwanis Club.  Messages of condolence may be expressed online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
