Jerry E. Barnett, 77, Kokomo, formerly of Yankeetown, died 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his home. He was born May 2, 1930, in Yankeetown, to Earl and Mildred (Scherll) Barnett. He married Janet Rodkey on April 11, 1988, and she survives.
In 1946, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he stayed for 12 years and then went into civil service with a total of 31 1/2 years working on aircraft.
He was a life member of both the Kokomo VFW 1152 and the American Legion in Newburgh, and also belonged to the the 40 & 8 Club.
He is survived by his wife Janet Barnett, Kokomo; three daughters, Susan, Angie and Celieca; and two stepsons, David Burt, Kokomo, and Gregory M. Burt, North Carolina. Also surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charlie and Marilyn Eller, Kokomo; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are noon Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville. Military rites by the Kokomo Military Rites Team will follow at the funeral home. Pastor Paul Sutherland will officiate. A private burial will be in South Union Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Unit at Howard Regional Health System for Dr. Bechar's office. Envelopes available at the funeral home.
