William J. Helms

William J. Helms, 80, Kokomo, passed away at 6:42 pm Monday, December 31, 2018, at Wellbrooke of Kokomo.  He was born May 10, 1938, in Logansport, the son of the late Harold J. & Laura (Whalen) Helms.  On August 26, 1958, in Charleston, South Carolina, he married Connie E. Fowler and she survives.

William attended Kokomo High School.  He served with the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of TSgt.  William retired from Delco Electronics after 33 years of service.  He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling, especially family trips to South Carolina.

Along with his wife Connie, William is survived by his children, Teresa Helms, Donna (Dan) Crafton, Joseph Helms, Robert Helms, and Tamara Helms; grandchildren, Jennifer Pickett, Amy Pickett, Jon Meier, Mollie Meier, Francis Joseph Helms, and Bradley Helms; siblings, Thomas (Judy) Helms, Reve (Gene) LeJeune, and Herbert (Rosella) Helms, along with several nieces and nephews. 

William was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert Helms; and nephew, Jerry LeJeune.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday January 5, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington Street, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Brian Dudzinski the celebrant.  Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-7 pm Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, where the Rosary will be offered at 7:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made in William’s memory to St Patrick Church.
