William Douglas Dishner, 74, Kokomo, passed away at home, which was one of his final wishes, at 10:55 a.m. on June 7, 2019. He was born at home on September 6, 1944, one of thirteen children, to Will and Donnie Dale Dishner, in Duffield, Virginia.
William graduated from Rye Cove High School in 1964. He played baseball and football, as his team’s first-string quarterback, all four years of high school. He loved hunting, fishing and the great outdoors, as well as racing and most important, spending time with his family.
William moved to Kokomo in the ‘60s and began his career at the Chrysler Corporation and continued his employment for 34 years until he retired. He met Ethel Jean Robarge in May of 1970 and made her his wife on November 18, 1973. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Jean Dishner; children, Darcy Lee and husband Butch Baker, of Kokomo, Douglas Scott and wife Reene Dishner, of Gate City, Virginia, James Roger and wife Michelle Dishner, of Galveston, Ryan Douglas and wife Jenny Dishner, of Kokomo; siblings, Carl Dishner, of Kokomo, Michael Dishner, of Jackson, Michigan, Jennie Chatari, of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Norma and husband Wayne Bear, of Leslie, Michigan, Cennea Tipton, of Clinchport, Virginia, and Janet and husband David Hill, of Gate City, Virginia; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glen Dishner; sisters, Hazel Burlew, Rena DeBaker, Mary Lou, Nila Faye and Sandra Kay Dishner.
The world has lost a great man, but God has gained a great man.
Loved forever and never forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Dave Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from Noon to 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
