Thomas Kent Reed

Thomas Kent Reed, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his home. He was born August 13, 1946 in Kokomo to Victor Lloyd and Ruby Bernice (Kellar) Reed. On October 3, 1969 he married Rita Sweeney and she survives.

Thomas was a hard working family man who enjoyed camping, fishing, competition canoe racing, John Wayne Movies, and racing stock cars at Kokomo Speedway. He also served on the Kokomo-Center Township School Board and enjoyed working with school children on the Polar Express. Thomas loved coaching his children in their sports and working on the family farm. He had a passion for the Indy 500 where he worked security for the race track. Most of all he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Reed; son, Kurt Reed; grandchildren, Dyrk Reed and Bayli Reed; brother, Stephen (Karen) Reed; sister, Christine Reed; nephews, Andrew (Courtney) Reed, Barr Reed, and Roger Reed; niece, Tawny (Rick) Addison; and great-nephew, Malakah Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marcus Reed; and brothers, Richard Reed and James Reed.

A memorial service celebrating Thomas’ life will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road.
