Thomas William Maher, 76, Kokomo, passed away August 26, 2019, at his home. He was born July 15, 1943, in Kokomo, the son of John O. & Mina Lou (Carlston) Maher.
Tom was a 1961 graduate of Kokomo High school. He also graduated from the Culver Navel Academy and attended Indiana University. Tom served with the Indiana National Guard for 6 years. For 30 years he was the co-owner of Maher’s Men’s and Ladies clothing store, and owner of Maher’s III Men’s clothing store in Kokomo. Tom also served as a substitute teacher for Kokomo Center School Corp, as an aid in the Special Education Department, and worked with Autistic clients at Bona Vista. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where he sang in the choir, and with the Kokomo Men of Note Barbershop Group.
Tom is survived by Margaret Ervington; father, John O. Maher; sister, Nancy Maher; brother, Mike (Susie) Maher; daughters, Melissa Maher, Christi Milliken, and Kathy (Jay) Anderson; and grandchildren, Rylie, Olivia, Sophia, and Nathaniel.
Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Mina Lou Maher; and wife, Barbara Maher.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday, September 5, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington Street, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Brian Dudzinski the celebrant. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-11 am Thursday, September 5, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Bona Vista. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held from 2-4 pm Saturday September 28, at the Kokomo Country Club, 1801 Country Club Dr., Kokomo.
