Stephen Cassidy Obituary

Stephen G. “Steve” Cassidy, 56, Russiaville, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo.  He was born May 13, 1962, in Cleveland, OH, the son of Ronald and Dorothy (Allen) Cassidy.

Steve graduated from Trinity High School in 1980 and from Ivy Tech Community College in 2012.  He had also attended Cleveland State University.  He worked as a service engineer for Reischauer Corp in Elgin, IL and at Chrysler Corp from 1994-2008.  Steve attended Grace United Methodist Church.

Steve was a man’s man and the hero and protector of his family.  He had a smile that lit up an entire room and never met a stranger.  Steve was an avid sports enthusiast.  He played semi pro football for the Cleveland Lions and the Indiana Mustangs until he retired at age 49.  He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with the Thursday Night Golf League at the Kokomo Wildkat Golf Course.  Steve also coached PAL football and supported Kokomo and Western athletics.  His favorite pastime was coaching football for teams that Ricky and Matt played on.  Steve proudly followed Madeline’s track team while she attended Butler University and loved to be able to travel to cheer her on.  Travel baseball was one of Steve’s loves.  He enjoyed traveling with Matt and the friends that became family.  He cheered Madeline and Meghan on through high school and college and was very proud of their accomplishments.  Benjamin and Madison were the apple of his eye.  To know Steve was to know his grandchildren.  He loved to attend Madison’s activities and spending every moment he could with Benjamin.  One of the highlights of the year for Steve was going to Florida on vacation with our friends Joe and Joanna Bailey.  “Camp Cassidy” was set up on the beach every day where old friends gathered and new friendships were made.  Steve and Kristi shared nine wonderful years together that were adventurous and full of laughter.  They worked hard to make a blended family become one to carry on.

Steve is survived by his fiancé, Kristin McCauley; mother, Dorothy Cassidy, Cleveland, OH; children, Stephen Richard (Samanatha) Cassidy, Brownsburg, IN, and Madeline (Brock) Naylor, Turner, ME; step-children, Madeline McCauley, Meghan McCauley, and Matthew McCauley; grandchildren, Madison Trivett, and Benjamin Cassidy; siblings, Laura Cassidy, Cleveland, OH, and Patrick Cassidy, Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Cassidy.
