Sharon Kay Granson, 78, Kokomo, passed away at 11:30 pm Tuesday December 10, 2019, at Northwoods Village in Kokomo. She was born February 9, 1941, in Anderson, the daughter of the late Edward J. & Lois L. (Unger) Heiny. She was married to Larry Gene Powell. She then married Fredrick M. Granson, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo on September 4, 1981, who preceded her in death on August 28, 2011.
Sharon was a 1959 graduate of Kokomo High School. She retired from St. Joseph Hospital as a telephone operator after 29 years of service. Sharon also worked as a cashier for National Foods and Alfaba in California. She was a member of St. Patrick Church. Sharon loved to play Bingo, Bunko, and helping with We Care at Christmas time. She also enjoyed working in her yard, going to the VFW, visiting with family and friends, and her dog “Gabby” who the children thought she loved more than them.
Sharon is survived by her children, Christina Ann (Larry) Denman, Jan (James) DiPrima, Jamie Lynn (Cody) Allen, and Gene Edward Powell (Cyd Hart); step-children, Patrick (Susan) Granson, Mike (Genevieve) Granson, Fred (Kulana) Granson, Kelly (Deanna) Granson, Melissa (Tim) Hulce, and Malinda (David) Neilsen; 22 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sondra (Bob) Reel, Rita Hall, Vicki Lytle, Connie (David) VanBibber; brother-in-law, David (Lana) Granson; sisters-in-law, Olympia Granson, and Ellen Granson, along with several nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Larry Del Powell; brothers-in-law, Jack Hall, Robert Lytle, Richard Renshaw, Carl Hynds, Richard Granson, Joseph Granson, Danny Granson; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Hynds, and Mary Louise Renshaw.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Monday, December 16, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington Street, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Brian Dudzinski the celebrant. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-1 pm Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sharon’s memory to St. Patrick Church or the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
