Roberta Tompkins

Roberta Tompkins, 92, of Kokomo, passed away at 7:55 pm Monday, March 4, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo.  She was born in Hopkinsville, KY on December 8, 1926, to the late Joe Collier Sr. & Celia (Johnson) Collier.  She married James L. Tompkins who preceded her in death on October 10, 1991.

After raising her five children, Roberta retired from General Motors/Delco Electronics.  She was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Harrison Homemakers, and the Rosary Society.  In her spare time, Roberta enjoyed word puzzles, walking, and baking.

Roberta's legacy lives on through her children, Mary Marie Cumbee of Haworth, CA, Catherine (Fred) Barnes of Kokomo, and James LaRue Tompkins, Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Larry Beard, Stacie Ellington, Tracie Cumbee, Roberta Beard, Cicele Bennett, Vanessa Lee, Freddy Barnes, Aaron Barnes, and DJ Tompkins; great-grandchildren, Evan Ellington, Wesley Bennett, Winston Bennett, Clayton Ellington, and Erin Barnes.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, David Eugene Tompkins, and Ann L. Beard; and siblings, Charlie White, and Joe Collier Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington Street, Kokomo. Rev. Fr. Brian Dudzinski will serve as the celebrant.  Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-11 am Wednesday at the church.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
