Richard William Weeks, 78, Kokomo, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at his home. He was born February 17, 1940, in a Southend Sea Hospital during an air raid in WWII in Rockford Essex, England. He was the son of the late Albert W. & Kathleen E. (Dempsey) Weeks. On October 7, 1960, in Bee Bee Funeral Home in Watseka, IL, he married Phyllis Eileen Myers, who preceded him in death on November 3, 2018.
Richard was a 1958 graduate of Kokomo High School. He worked for Jessie’s IGA, Crescent Dairy, Cuneo Press, and Chrysler where he retired in 1989. Richard and his wife Phyllis attended St. Andrew Episcopal Church where they were care takers for many years. He built hot rods and drove them across the USA. His extensive research in genealogy lead to an extensive family tree. Richard built remote control model air planes and flew them. He and his wife were well known for their large family Thanksgiving dinners. He was very talented in creating and building things.
Richard is survived by his children, Vivian Sue (Mike) Butcher, Kokomo, Richard (Deborah) Weeks II, Shiloh, TN, Brian Weeks, Kokomo, Billy Ray Canady, Kokomo, and Angela Skaggs (Bobby Ottinger) Kokomo, along with 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Chumbly, Teresa Reinke, along with several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Teresa Garrison; brother, Philip Weeks, and grandson, Joseph Cron.
A Requiem Mass will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, November 30, 2018, at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 602 W. Superior Street, Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Richard Lightsey and Rev. Fr. Ted Neidlinger officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-1 pm Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
