Richard Lee Ramseyer, 89, Kokomo, passed away at 8:47 pm Friday, May 3, 2019, at Bloom-Kokomo, formerly the Wellington. He was born March 20, 1930 in Kokomo, the son of the late Doyle and Dorothy (Dick) Ramseyer in Kokomo. On May 21, 1993, he married Beverly “Dutch” (Fettig) Nelson, and she survives.
Richard was a 1948 graduate of Prairie Township High School and Valparaiso University. He served in the United States Marine Corp, earning the rank of Sergeant. Richard retired from General Motors after 37 years where he worked as a supervisor. Richard was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Kokomo. He enjoyed carpentry, remote control planes, and wintering in Florida.
In addition to his wife Dutch, Richard is survived by his children, Sheila Grant, Susan (Herb) Ling-Modrak, Stacey (Kenny) Kendall, and Todd (Maria) Ramseyer; brother, Jack (Laurie) Ramseyer; grandchildren, Adrienne Partlow, Samantha and Sabrina Hale, Drake and Hayden Ramseyer; great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Gryphon Partlow; step-children, Mike (Debbie) Nelson, Joanie (Tom) Bolka, Pat (Sherri) Nelson, and Adam Nelson.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children and first wife, Dee (Bolser) Ramseyer; brother, Phil Ramseyer; and step-son, Aaron Nelson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm Thursday, May 9, 2019, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 3155 County Rd. S. 200 W., Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Matthew Arbuckle the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corp and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-1 pm Thursday at the church before the mass. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
