Michelle Rene (Karnes) Aubrey

Michelle “Shell” Rene Aubrey, 61, Kokomo, passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at her home.  She was born August 8, 1956, in Kokomo, to Jack Allen and Nancy Jane (Carey) Karnes.

Michelle graduated from Haworth High School in 1974 and earned her associate degree in Business Management in 1996.  She had also earned her cosmetology license and pharmacy tech license and was trained in medical billing and coding.  She worked for Sterling Management and was also retired from Western High School, where she worked in the cafeteria for ten years.  She attended Temple Baptist Church and Fuel Church.

Survivors include her mother, Nancy Jane Gilbert; daughters, Amber N. Aubrey and Jennifer R. Hatt; grandchildren, Jack Lay, Dalton Hatt, Devon Hatt and Evie Mitchum; and special friend, Robert Gonzales.

She was preceded in death by her father; step-father, Joseph Gilbert; brother, Jeffrey Allen Karnes; sister, Pamela Davis; brother-in-law, Doyle Davis; and grandson, Preston Lay.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Jacob Burgei officiating.  Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
