Michael R. “Mike” Rust, 64, Russiaville, passed away June 19, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born January 9, 1955, in Marion, the son of the late Alva & Lena Mae (Roller) Rust. On June 18, 1994, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, he married Kimberly Stout and she survives.
Mike was a 1973 graduate of Northwestern High School. He retired from Chrysler Corp in 2004 after 31 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #685. Mike was a family man who loved spending time with his grandchildren and coaching his grandson’s baseball team at Russiaville Little League. He also enjoyed drag racing at Bunker Hill Dragstrip and was very proud of his race car, a 1965 Coronet. Mike’s project car was a1968 Dart GTS and was close to completion. Mike had the ability to tinker with unwanted objects to restore them to usefulness.
Along with his wife Kim, Mike is survived by his daughters, Jessica (Adam) Miller and Rachel (Travis) Guy; grandchildren, Lauren and Blake Miller, Treyton and Rylan Durr, and Braylen Burke; brother, Richard (Karen) Rust; father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Nancy Stout; sisters-in-law, Candy (Doug) Duke and Tammy (Bryan) Slick; brother-in-law, Michael Stout, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and good friend Kim Fipps.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Alva & Lena Mae Rust, and sisters, Pamela Rust and Carol Henry.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 pm Monday at the funeral home. The family has requested that you dress casually or in jeans and t-shirt.
