Melvin Crawford Obituary

Melvin J. “Mel” Crawford, 71, Kokomo, passed away at 6:46 p.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, at Kokomo Healthcare.  He was born October 6, 1946, in New Madrid County, Missouri, to Cecil and Mary (Westmoreland) Crawford.  On November 6, 2009, he married Glendel Darlene Harris, and she survives.

Mel worked at Cuneo Press and Indiana Bell Telephone.  He had driven a route for 7-Up and worked at Star Glove in machine maintenance.  He was a simple man and lived life just being himself.  He enjoyed watching TV, reading and hunting with a slingshot, and he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Glendel Darlene Crawford, he is survived by two sons, Michael R. (Jeanne) Crawford and Donald G. (Lora) Crawford; his grandchildren; and four sisters, Shirley McClure, Louise Goggins, Gladys Bolin and Lynda Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cecil Crawford; and sisters, Shelly Negri and Joyce Riley.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd., Kokomo, with Pastor Steve Sherwood officiating.  Burial will take place at a later date in Crown Point Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
