Mary K. (Turner) Schaefer, 88, Greentown, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019, in Golden Living Center, Kokomo. She was born in Greentown, on May 12, 1930, to Virgil E. and Alta B. (Cole) Turner.
She graduated from Greentown High School in 1949. She married Clyde S. Schaefer on April 27, 1950 in Kokomo and he preceded her in death on August 20, 1996.
Mary had worked at Hudson Grocery store and retired from Haynes International with more than 25 years of service. She was past member of Howard County Home Ec Club, a room mother and Brownie troop leader for many years.
She is survived by daughters, Bonny L. Bitzell and Debi K. Tygart; five grandchildren, Missi Frey-Tomlinson (Joe Morgan), Matthew Ryan Bitzell, Erin (Cody) Rayls, Megan Lawless and Andy Tygart; seven great-grandchildren, Emma E. Henson, Lincoln Henson, Brylee D. Rayls, Warren J. Rayls, Maci Lynn Bitzell, Marli R. Jackson and Zoe Lynn Morgan; and son-in-law, Jeff Lawless.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Alta Turner; husband, Clyde S. Schaefer; daughter, Linda G. Lawless; granddaughter, Michelle Frey; sisters, Kate Ooten and Juanita Surface; half-brother, Charles Pickett; and son-in-law, Charles (Bodie) Tygart.
She was an exceptional women, a loving caring wife and mother, and a wonderful grandma and great-grandma to all the grandbabies. She was the kind of mother everyone should have been lucky to have.
Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown. Funeral services will be Friday at Noon also at the funeral home with Pastor Kenn Freelan officiating. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown.
