Lawrence Eugene Becktell

Lawrence Eugene Becktell, 72, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, formerly of Kokomo, passed away at 5:40 pm Thursday, February 14, 2019.  He was born November 11, 1946, in Muncie, IN, the son of Robert H. & Ruth Alice (Chandler) Nance. 

Lawrence served with the United States Army from 1966-1968. He was proud of his service and supported veterans.  Lawrence worked for Waste Management in Kokomo and Carolina Grounds in South Carolina.  He loved to fish, walk on the beach, and spend time with his family.

Lawrence is survived by his siblings, Norma (Tommy) Meredith, Mary (William) Queen, Susan (Dale) Harrington, Barbara (James) Ogden, Karen (Ray) Weaver, Charles Nance, and David Nance; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews; and lifelong friend, Robert Smith.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Floyd Becktell and Judith Ann Nance.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Jackson Moore officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:00 pm Tuesday in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-11 am Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence’s memory to the Disabled American Veteran (DAV), or Jackson Commons.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
