Kathy Jo Carter, 73, Kokomo, passed away at 9:55 am Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at her home. She was born May 13, 1946, to the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Martin) Burkhardt in Tipton County. On August 7, 1994, she married Jerry Carter in Gatlinburg, TN, and he survives.
Kathy was a graduate of Windfall High School. She retired from Delco Electronics after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Morrisette Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Hawkins County, TN, and UAW Local #292. Kathy enjoyed crocheting and working with stained glass.
In addition to her husband Jerry, Kathy is survived by her daughter, Terre Dilley; son, Kenny (Shea) Carter; step-daughters, Shiela (Brian) Knight, and Christine (Jeff) Roller; brother, Fritz Burkhardt; grandchildren, Kody, Kyley, and Erik Carter, Brianna Knight, Carlissa Byers, and Shelby Roller; great-grandchildren, Cutler and Kendall; sister-in-law, Sherry Rosselet.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Toby Burkhardt; and sister, Joyce Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Chaplin Jake Julian officiating. Burial will follow in New London Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Kathy’s memory to the Kokomo Humane Society.
