Judge Richard A. Maughmer

Judge Richard A. Maughmer, 65, Walton, went to be with the Lord Monday evening, September 16, 2019, unexpectedly at his home.  He was born December 2, 1953, in Cass County, the son of Ned and Janice (Perkins) Maughmer.  On October 20, 1973 he married Vicki Jump who survives.

Rick graduated in 1972 from Lewis Cass High School.  Rick enlisted with the United States Air Force in 1972 and had a combined total of 37 years serving both active duty and in reserve capacity, retiring as a Col. in 2009.  He began law practice in Logansport after he graduated from law school in 1979, from the University of Nebraska.  In 1983, he started working part-time in the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office, and Gov. Robert D. Orr appointed him Cass County Prosecutor in 1986.  Rick was currently serving as Superior Court 2 Judge for Cass County, since 2001.

Rick is survived by his wife Vicki; 3 daughters, Shae, Valerie (fiancé, Landon Mace), and Kathlene Maughmer; parents, Ned and Janice Maughmer; in-laws, Charles and Lois Jump; sisters, Jill (Jeff) Jones, and Beth Fouts; brother-in-law, Dave (Beth) Jump; and sister-in-law, Linda (Andy) Forsythe.

Rick was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dan Fouts.

Funeral service celebrating Rick’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 21, 2019, at First Congregational Church, 505 W. Mulberry Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Jon Tice officiating.  Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery, Walton, IN, with military honors provided by the United States Air Force. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3-8 pm Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.  Memorial contributions may be made in Rick’s memory to the Cass County Community Foundation, PO Box 441, 729 E.
