John O. Maher, 102, Kokomo, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2019, at his home. He was born June 9, 1917, in Kokomo, to Jack H. and Theona (Bishop) Maher. On June 12, 1940, he married Mina Lou Carlston, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2000.
John graduated from Kokomo High School in 1935 and attended Indiana University. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a quartermaster and later went into business with his father, establishing Jack Maher & Son Clothing. John enjoyed golfing and flying his small plane. He was a member of Rotary International, the Kokomo Country Club and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
He is survived by his son, Mike (Susie) Maher; daughter, Nancy Maher; daughter-in-law, Margaret Ervington; special companion, Zoe Snyder; five grandchildren, Patrick Maher, Matthew Maher, Missy Maher, Christi Milliken and Kathy (Jay) Anderson; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mina Lou Maher, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Thomas Maher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 W., Kokomo, with Rev. Fr. Matthew Arbuckle the celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
