John R. East

John R. East, 69, Kokomo, passed away at 5:53 am Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Northwoods Village in Kokomo.  He was born August 9, 1949, in Kokomo, to the late Elmer & Blythe Jean East.  He married Harriet M. Derricott on January 23, 2003 in Kokomo and she survives.

John was a graduate of Maconaquah High School.  He served with the United States Army. John worked for Chrysler Corp for 32 years, and would often be found tinkering in his garage. He was active with the Disabled American Veteran “DAV”, a member of the Veterans of the Foreign War “VFW”, and a life member of the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization. 

Along with his wife Harriet, John is survived by his children, Beth, Shuna, John “Rusty” (Elizabeth), and Joe; step-children, Scott, Kimberly (Terry), and Stephany, along with several grandchildren, and step-grandchildren; and siblings, Carolyn, Richard, Judy, Donna, Janet, Robert, Jerry, Steve, and Richard.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James. 

Funeral services will be held at Noon Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson Street, Kokomo, with Chaplain Dennis Chapman officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:00 pm Tuesday in Marion National Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-Noon Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization, 8313 E. 400 S., Greentown, IN  46936.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
