Joan G. Preston, 91, Kokomo, passed away at 5:55 am Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Waterford Place Health Campus in Kokomo. She was born April 9, 1928, in Tipton, the daughter of the late Hugh & Flava (Shockley) Graham.
Joan graduated from Lebanon High School. In 1972, obtained her Indiana University accounting certificate of which she was very proud. She retired from the Indiana Department of Revenue as an auditor. Joan joined the Waterford family in 2016 where she quickly became actively involved in activities and events held at the campus. You could always find her crafting, flower arranging, making bracelets, or involved in anything “pretty.” Her favorite past time included shopping, shopping, and more shopping. You could always find her hair fixed and wearing bracelets and festive socks, no matter the time of day or year. Joan’s quick sense of humor, fierce independence, and sweet smile made her stand out in the crowd. She always had an opinion and was never scared to share it with you. Joan touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed.
A special thank you to Waterford Place Health Campus staff for their special care, to two special friends Chris and Marie who were always there to assist with anything she needed especially an ice cream sundae, and to all the friends she made along the way. She may not always have remembered your name, but she would always take a ride “home.” For those who knew her best, you know she’s gone ahead to put the coffee on... don’t forget the vanilla creamer.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019, at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2000 W. Jefferson St., Kokomo, with Pastor Joyce Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the church.
