Jerry Allen Smith, 75, Greentown, passed away at 1:46 pm Friday, March 22, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. He was born May 12, 1943, in Tipton, the son of the late Lavon & Waneta (Moorman) Smith. On June 2, 1962, he married the love of his life, Susan Prather, and she survives.
Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Eastern High School and a member of Jerome Christian Church. He retired from Farm Bureau Coop after 15 years of service as a certified crop adviser, though he worked in agriculture throughout his career. Jerry never knew a stranger, was a friend to everyone, and was always the jokester of the group. He cherished the time he spent with his family and was proud of his kids and grandkids. Jerry enjoyed woodworking and being outside.
Along with his wife, Susan, Jerry is survived by his children, Gregory (Pam) Smith, Annette (David) Emerson, and Dawn (Doug) VanBibber; grandchildren, Shelby (Logan) Waggoner, Sydney (Neaven) Fite, Adam Emerson, Aaron Emerson, Grace VanBibber; great-grandchildren, Carter Fite, Eisley Fite; siblings, Janet Buckley, Linda (Donnie) Yundt, Max (Janet) Smith, Loretta (Wayne) Majors; brothers-in-law, Bob (Gayle) Prather Jr.; sister-in-law, Joyce (Kenny) Graham; mother-in-law, Jeanette Prather; along with 6 step-grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Robert Prather Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at Jerome Christian Church, 9535 E. 100 S., Greentown, with Pastor David Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Phlox. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-2 pm Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s memory to Jerome Christian Church. Hasler & Stout Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
