James "Jim" Unger Obituary

James “Jim” Edward Unger, much loved husband, father, and grandfather, died surrounded by family and friends, on February 11, 2019, at the age of 70.  He married his wife of 35 years on April Fool’s Day, 1983.  He graduated from Sharpsville-Prairie in 1966.  He graduated from ITT.  He was an Air Force Vietnam veteran with seven and a half years of service.  He worked at Delphi (Delco Electronics) for 30 years as a radio repairman. 

Jim was a kind, generous and loving man who was always there to lend a helping hand.  He loved his wife and was her rock.  He enjoyed playing the card games Euchre and Hand and Foot.  He was the ultimate tool man.  He was a talented carpenter, building and remodeling the homes he lived in.  He was proficient in electrical and mechanical projects.  Being a farmer’s son, he knew how to improvise when needed.  In past years he was an avid gardener and recently tended to his beloved black raspberries.  He loved computers, Legos, and other building kits.  He is survived by his beloved cat, Simon.

He is survived by his wife, Penelope “Penny”, sister, Sylvia (Fred) Stout and sister-in-law, Carol Unger.  He is also survived by his children; sons Anthony Unger, Matthew (Julie) Unger and Alan Unger, God daughter Nicole (Jerimia) Lucas, sons Mark (Angel) Unger, Jody Unger, daughter Buffey (Nicholas) Hedrick.

His grandchildren are Nicole, A.J., Kaleb, Isaac, Austin, Jaicee, Kodye, Jett, Marcus, Brittany, Shelby, Parker and Molly. Great-grandchildren are Amari, Makiya and Lillie.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Wayne Unger, mother, Mary Isabelle Unger and brother, Robert “Bob” Unger.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo. Burial will follow in Nevada Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from Noon until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674, or Alley Cat Allies, P.O.
