James L. Myers

James L. Myers, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 11:45 am Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was born May 17, 1946 in Kokomo.  He was the son of the late William L. & Alice O. (Salmons) Myers.  On June 4, 1967, in Kokomo, he married Janet M. Hendrix, and she survives.

James graduated from Kokomo High School in 1964, from Ball State University in 1968 and received his Master of Science degree from Ball State in 1971.  He retired in 2007, after 31 ½ years, from Taylor High School where he taught Industrial Arts and drafting and also started the first high school robotics program in Indiana.  Prior to teaching, James worked for Continental Steel and HH Gregg and later taught at Purdue University at Kokomo.  After his retirement, he worked as a transport driver for Eye Surgeons of Indiana (ESI) Eye Institute.  He was president of the Teachers Association and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. 

Along with his wife Janet, James is survived by his children, David A. (Wendy) Myers, Robin A. (William) Gibson, Scott A. (Ginger) Myers, and Brad E. Erb, along with eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Judith; grandson, Alex Myers; and aunt, Imogene Myers.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with his son, Pastor David Myers, officiating.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1-3 pm Sunday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James’ memory to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86^th Street, #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
