Irene Kay (Sheets) Erickson

Irene Kay Erickson, 71, Kokomo, passed away at 12:50 am Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at North Woods Village in Kokomo.  She was born July 11, 1947, in Logansport, the daughter of the late Omar & E. Pearl (Flick) Sheets.  On July 12, 1969, at Friends Church in New London, she married Ronald Howard Erickson who survives.

Irene was a 1965 graduate of Western High School and was a 1968 graduate of South Bend Memorial School of Nursing.   She was a registered Nurse and held a variety of management position through Howard Community Hospital for 29 years.  She also worked for Christian Counseling Outreach for 2.5 years.   Irene was a member of Highland Park Church, South Bend Memorial Nurses Alumni, and a former member of the Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives (IONE).  She received the Frederic Chopin Piano Award, Various music awards, the Dr. Grable Scholarship, the National Honor Society Award, and was a Certified Ceramics Instructor.

Along with her husband Ronald, Irene is survived by her son, Matthew Evan Erickson, Kokomo; nieces and nephews, Karla K. (Michael) Bledsoe, Jeff (April) Ailor, Andrea (Chris) Weidner, and Lee Rasure, along with 6 great-nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Phyllis D. (Richard) Ailor, and Helen Sheets.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Verlin Sheets, and Marilyn Brown; and a niece.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, with Pastor Ed Vasicek officiating.  Entombment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the funeral home.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.stoutandson.com.
