George William "Bill" Reed Obituary

George William “Bill” Reed, 82, Greentown, passed away at 9:10 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019, in his home.  He was born, in Galveston, Indiana, to Loris and Waneta (Scott) Reed on June 2, 1937.

He graduated from Eastern High School in 1955.  After graduation, Bill went on to serve in the Army Reserves from 1956 until 1962.  On June 23, 1982, he married Sara “Janie” (Edgemon), and she survives.  Bill and Janie spent 20 winters in Sebring, FL where they have a lot of wonderful friends.  They stayed in their 5th wheel in an RV park and later, in the winter home they purchased.

He lived an adventurous life that was never boring. Following his time in the Army reserve, he became an electrician and certified welder. He traveled all over the Southwest working in large power plant construction. He worked as an electrician at the Kokomo Chrysler Corporation Casting Plant for 17 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of Jerome Christian Church, IBEW, American Legion Post #317 of Greentown and Local Union #1166. He loved traveling, telling stories, working on cars and could fix just about anything. Bill was a jack of all trades and loved by all. He was a special “Grandpa” to 15 grandchildren and “Papaw” to 13 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sara “Janie” Reed; daughter, Lorie Reed – Freeman; son, Jeffrey W. (Barbara) Reed; daughter, Robin (Lyle) Reed – Hainlen; son, Ronnie (Kim) Reed; son, Troy M. (Charlotte) Reed; daughter, Tracy (Cameron) Reed – Keck; stepsister, Sandy (Rollie) Herbert; grandchildren, Jeremy Freeman, Jason (Aly) Freeman, Madison (Riley) Haupert, Courtney (Alex) Hague, Marissa (Fiancé, Alan) Reed, Summer (Damian) Reed, Abigail Reed, Travis (Heather) Hainlen, Trent (Michelle) Hainlen, Elizabeth (Chuck) Taylor, Aaron Reed, Rainey Reed, Shane (Amber) Reed, Andrew (Nina) Reed and Seth (Alexa) Keck; great grandchildren, Martin and Audrina Freeman, Ainslee Hague, Aria Maciel, Liam and Jonas Hainlen, Willow Hainlen, Lennon, Mason and Emmalynn Taylor, Cayden Reed, Kaycee and Mason Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles E. Reed.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jerome Christian Church and/or The National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jerome Christian Church, 9535 E. 100 S., Greentown.  Funeral services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. also at the church, with Pastor David Stokes officiating. Burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown.
