Elayne L. (Baptist) Steindorf

Elayne L. Steindorf, 67, Kokomo, passed away early morning on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.  She was born November 9, 1951, in Beloit, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Clifford & Eunice (Coutts) Baptist.  On August 1, 1971, she married Glenn Steindorf who preceded her in death February 23, 2019.

Elayne was a 1969 graduate of F.J. Turner High School in Beloit, WI.  She graduated from California State University Fresno in 1981 where she received her BSN with Magna Cum Laude honors. She went on to receive her MSN in Midwifery from the University of Indianapolis in 2008, also with honors. With this education, Elayne dedicated her life to the education and care of women and infants. Elayne worked as an RN, childbirth educator, perinatal grief specialist and lactation consultant throughout her career including time spent at Dukes Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Riverview Hospital in Noblesville. She fulfilled her life-long dream by retiring as a Certified Nurse Midwife from Carolina Women’s Specialist Clinic. She was a current member of Grace Baptist Church and a former member of Gateway Baptist Church in Sumter, SC. She was also a member of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

Elayne is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Steffen, Alyssa (Wes Jr.) Wright, and Anne (Mike) Powell; and her precious grandchildren, Zakk Walker, Jillian Cotham, Adeline Powell, Lorelai and Elena Wright, along with countless beloved nieces and nephews.

Elayne was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Sue Penechar, Barbara Schaffer, Margaret Nider, and Helen Mixon.

Funeral services will be held at 5:30 pm Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Kerry Williams officiating.  Private burial will be held at Marion National Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 3:30-5:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home.  Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com
