Edward “Dale” Rayls, 96, Kokomo, passed away at 3:30 pm Sunday December 2, 2018. He was born August 11, 1922, the son of the late Don & Margaret Rayls. On February 15, 1947, he married Arlene Cook and she survives.
After graduating from Kokomo High School, Dale served with the United States Army during WWII. Toward the end of his service he was stationed in China for 2 ½ years with the ground crew of the Flying Tigers. After the war, he served as a firefighter for the Kokomo Fire Department from 1948-1969. Dale then worked security for Delco Electronics retiring in 1987 after 15 years of service. He was also a member of Judson Road Christian Church.
Along with his wife Arlene, Dale is also survived by his daughter, Sandy (Jim) Aucoin; grandchildren, Mark Metcalf, Amboy, Ashleigh (Joe) Pascarella, Trumbull, CT; step-grandson, Brett Aucoin; great-grandchildren, Camron Metcalf, and Owen Pascarella; and brother, Joe (Wanda) Rayls.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cheryl Metcalf; and siblings, Bill Rayls, Archie Rayls, and Anna Bates.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday December 6, 2018, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Jason Double officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12-1 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
