Earl Edward Shane, 81, Greentown, passed away Tuesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Community Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo. He was born on March 12, 1937 to Tedd and Emma Ruth (McCann) Shane. He married Laura (Gross) in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, November 14, 1995, and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2018.
Earl had worked on the family farm and had worked as a Tinner at Delco Electronics retiring in 1994. He enjoyed writing short stories and poems, woodworking, gardening, cooking and collecting recipes. He enjoyed volunteering his time and services to the community. He served and was President of the Eastern Howard Emergency service in Greentown for many years. He was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash award.
He is survived by four children, Charles Shane, Douglas (Sharon) Shane, Terri (Scott) Mundell and Aaron (Staci) Shane; grandchildren, Cassandra (Chad) Stout, Danielle (Michael Garretson) Shane, Theodore (Brynna Richard) Shane, Trey (Danielle) Shane, Joshua (Rachel) Mundell, Kyle (Kaitlyn) Mundell, Eric (Jesi Evans) Mundell, Rebecca Mundell, Cole and Lauryn Shane; sister, Ellen (Rex) Geiger; sister-in-law, Myrna Shane; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; brothers, Kenneth Shane and Paul Shane; sister-in-law, Rose Ellen Shane; grandson, Jeremiah Shane; and granddaughter, Jenny Shane.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, March 15, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home with Pastor David Stout officiating. A private burial at a later date will be in Grant Memorial Park.
