Dorothy Lindley Obituary

Dorothy Opal Lindley, 89, Kokomo, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, from her earthly home, surrounded by loving family. She was born March 22, 1923, in Tipton County, the daughter of Morris Edward and Ethel Mae (Elsea) Hughes.  She married Joseph Harold Lindley April 13, 1941, at North Buckeye Friends Meeting and he preceded her in death March 2, 1986.

Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and games that presented a mental challenge like Skip-Bo and Scrabble. She had a good sense of humor and used that gift as a born-again Christian to witness to others.  She was an active member of Morning Star Church where she served on the Mission Board and attended the ABF, (Adult Bible Fellowship).  She was also a member of the Women’s Temperance Christian Union.   She was known affectionately as “The Lady Bug Lady” to her many friends.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Lindley and his wife Rebecca of Kokomo, Philip Lindley and his wife Linda of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Ladonna Lindley of Chugiak, AK and Lenora Burtch and her husband Robert of Kokomo; ten grandchildren, Melissa Noll and her husband Mike, Gregory Lindley and his wife Amy, Bethany Rhinehart, Andrea Burtch and her fiancé Joe Rayl, Eric Burtch, Danielle Nichols and her husband Nate, Tim Rhodes, Hamilton Lindley and his wife Bonnie, Hillary Lindley, Hannason Lindley;  seventeen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma Miller of Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Carl Hughes and Cleo Hughes; four sisters, Irene Nay, Thelma Jones, Pauline Walters, and Betty Wright; and one grandson, Hilton Lindley.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012, at Morning Star Church, 2900 E. Markland, with Pastor Greg Reed officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour preceding the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Missions at Morning Star Church or to the Gideons International with envelopes available at the church.  Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements
