Donald Spence Obituary

Donald M. “Don” Spence, 78, Kokomo, passed away at 10:33 am Monday September 10, 2018, at his home.  He was born February 1, 1940, in Galveston, the son of the late Donald F. & Vera O. (Young) Spence.  On May 3, 1959, he married Judy A. Baber and she survives.

Don was a 1958 graduate of Galveston High School and had attended Indiana University at Kokomo.  He worked for McCoy’s Grocery Store from 1955-1966.  Don then retired from Delco Electronics as a General Supervisor after 38 years of service. Being an avid hunter, Don and his 2 sons loved to hunt every year at Thanksgiving time together.  Don enjoyed camping with his family and wintering in Florida.

Along with his wife Judy, Don is also survived by his children, Christine (Gerald) Phegley, Dennis Spence, Gregory (Melissa) Spence, and Catherine (Chris) Krieger; 16 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Gregory Kent Spence; sisters-in-law, Sue Spence;, and Joyce (Calvin) Myers, along with several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and niece, Karen Nichols.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday September 14, 2018, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, with Joyce Brooks officiating.  Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery.  Friends are invited to visit with the family from 11-1 Friday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to Stout & Son Funeral Home to assist the family with final expenses.  Messages of condolences may be left online at www.stoutandson.com
