David Kanouse Obituary

David Loring “Dave” Kanouse, 86, Kokomo, was gathered into the arms of our Lord on Monday, January 14, 2019, surrounded by his family.  He was born June 18, 1932, in Tiosa, IN, to Donald & Mary Ruth (Meek) Kanouse.  In 1952, he married Nancy Sue Henricks, in New London, Connecticut, who preceded him in death on October 10, 2016.  Our father’s memories are forever a part of our hearts.  Dave loved his family and they always came first in his life.

Dave graduated in 1950 from Richland Center High School.  He played basketball and his accomplishments can be found at the Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle.  After graduation, Dave and four basketball players joined the Navy.  They were stationed in New London, Connecticut.  He was a Yeoman first class.  Dave was foremost a devoted father and doting grandfather. You could find him at all his grandchildren’s sporting events and school functions.  His hands were those of a hardworking man that gave countless hours to helping family and friends.

Dave was President of the original Haworth Booster Club.  He and many volunteers helped build the first football stadium at Haworth.  Every summer, Dave volunteered his vacation time to raise money for the Booster Club at the 4H Greentown Fair.  He was a 50 year member and past President of the Kokomo Masonic Lodge.  Dave was a member of St. Luke’s Church and youth ministry director along with his wife, Nancy.  He currently attended First Congregational Church.  Dave was the first United Parcel driver in Kokomo and worked for UPS for 37 years.  He received awards from the UPS President and Governor.  Dave worked for Meijer’s for 15 years.  He spent over 50 years refinishing furniture for family and friends, and his craftsmanship can be found in many homes across the country.

Dave is survived by his daughters, Debbie Wilson, Vicki Boles, Kim (Barry) Ackison-Watson; grandchildren, Brooke Wilson, Megan Wilson, Brianne Boles, Kimberly Blair (Dane) Fife, Braden Boles, Kelcey Ackison, Kali Ackison, and Ashley Richardson; step-grandchildren, Kamy, Kaylee, Trever, and Trey Watson; great-grandchildren, Chayse Wilson, Reyce Gibson, Quinnly and Reagan Fife, Hayden Boruff, and Jase Bird, along with many nieces and nephews.

Dave was greeted at the gates of Heaven by his loving wife, Nancy; his parents, Mary Ruth & Don; his brother, Larry; and his niece, Kristine.

A special thank you to the nurses and aides on the third floor at Community Howard Regional Health, Dr. Tran, and Dr. Salter.
