Darby Ellis-Sturm, 96, Kokomo, passed away on June 15, 2019, at Waterford Health Campus, in Kokomo. She was a resident in Green Acres for over 50 years. She was born November 22, 1922, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Carlton & Elise Tower (Darby) Jacobs. On July 26, 1943, she married Lt. Philip Chester Ellis Sr., who preceded her in death on June 28, 1985. Darby then married Benjamin Sturm on June 28, 1997, and he survives.
Darby worked for Green Acres Golf Course where she managed the club house for many years. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, Dominos, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Along with her husband Benjamin, Darby is survived by her brother Philip Jacobs; her children, Darby E. “Dee” (David) Wolf, Philip Ellis Jr. (Donna Gore), Deborah (Charles) Mueller, Marjorie (Jerry) Fiete, and John (Lisa Falco); son-in-law, Steve Linn, and 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Darby was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Peter Jacobs; first husband; and daughter, Lindsay Ellis Linn.
A memorial service will be held at Noon, Friday June 21, 2019, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 5741 W. 100 N., Kokomo, with Pastor Michael Goodspeed officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Darby’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
