Billy Wayne Smith, 75, Kokomo, passed away at 4:49 pm Friday, November 1, 2019, at his home. He was born April 15, 1944, in Grays Knob, Kentucky, the son of the late Cassie Smith & Elizabeth (Walbrecht) Smith Freeman. On July 26, 1998, at Upper Deer Creek Church, he married Marilyn Johnson who survives.
Billy served with the United States Army from 1966-1989, retiring as a 1st Sgt. While serving with the Army, Billy received numerous medals such as the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Vietnam Campaign Medals with 3 Campaign Stars, Overseas bars, National Defense Service Medal, and an Army Commendation Medal.
Along with his wife Marilyn, Billy is survived by his children, David Wayne (Tina) Smith, Lisa McKibben, Candy (Dan) Wilson, and Jason (Shannon) Smith; 9 grandchildren, Deanna (Shawn) Durham, Jeremiah (Breanna) Foust, Ashley (Chad) Snyder, Morgann Smith, Sierra Smith, Dennis Franklin, Josh Smith, Jasmin Smith, and Jason McKibben; 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Winnie Miller, Cassie Smith, and Nadine Adkins.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deanna Jo McKibben; son, Robert McKibben Jr; and sister, Jackie Pierce.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Jefferson Street Chapel, 414 W. Jefferson Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends may visit with the family from 3-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
