Alberta A. Herron gently passed away while surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Wellbrooke of Kokomo. She was born November 18, 1925, in Howard County, the daughter of the late William E. & Mary (Touby) Morris. On August 3, 1946, she married Raymond Kenneth “Bud” Herron who preceded her in death in 1997.
Alberta was a member of Main Street Christian Church, where she served as church secretary for many years. She was active in the Ladies Aid Society and many other philanthropic endeavors. During the course of their marriage, she and her husband served as loving foster parents to a number of young people. Upon graduating from Russiaville High School in 1946, Alberta worked for Montgomery Ward and Martin Bros.
Alberta lived her faith with a ready smile and word of encouragement for everyone who crossed her path. Her sense of humor was one of the many things that endeared her to a wide circle of friends and family. She worked tirelessly for many causes within the framework of church ministries. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Alberta” to countless people who grew to love her along her life’s journey of 93 years. She was always giving of her time and resources including transforming unused communion wine into grape jelly for her grateful church family. You could always count on her for a prayer, an uplifting word, or a heartfelt greeting card in the mail. She meticulously kept track of birthdays, anniversaries, and other milestone dates to make someone feel remembered and celebrated. Her death leaves a void in the heart of this community.
Alberta is survived by her nephews Rodney (Jeanne) Kelsay and Morris (Linda) Kelsay; a host of beloved great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Ruth Ellen (Bob) Kelsay, one brother and nieces Marlene Beatty and Nancy Clark.
