Steven Lowell Kuhns, Sr.

Steven “Steve” Lowell Kuhns Sr., 73, of Kokomo, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Advent Health Tavares, Florida. He was born September 22, 1950 in Kokomo, the son of Lowell V. and Mable M. (Oldfather) Kuhns. On April 11, 1981 he married Kathy L. (Lytle) Kuhns at Morning Star Chapel in Kokomo, and she survives.

Steve was a 1968 graduate of Kokomo High School. He retired from Civil Service after 37 years and served with the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974. Steve enjoyed golfing, boating, riding his motorcycle, camping, Jeep trailing, traveling with his wife and family, and spending time at their second home in Florida. He was a member of Judson Road Christian Church.

As a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he filled our family with life, love and laughter. His jovial spirit will be greatly missed, and the memories of him will be deeply cherished. We are comforted in the knowledge that he is standing with the Lord.

Along with his wife, Kathy, he is survived by his children, Steven L. (Angie) Kuhns, Jr., James P. (Dana) Kuhns, James W. Schaaf, and Tina M. (Daniel) Greis; grandchildren, Mercedes Schaaf, Zachary (Alex) Schaaf, Lexus (Taylor) Hileman, Katelyn (Eli) Brubaker, and Colt Hileman; great grandchildren, Ayden, Natalie, and Aria Fehr, and Ivory Brubaker; brother, Larry A. (Shirley Ann) Kuhns; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe (Shirley Rose) Kuhns and Tom Kuhns; sisters, Barbara Allen and Wilma (Ron) Galloway; grandchildren, Kayla and Joe Kuhns; and nephews Kevin Kuhns and Brad Kuhns.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Crossroads Community Church, 4254 S. 00 EW, Kokomo, with Dr. Gary Carpenter officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at the church.
